What is the future of the book in the global village?

As our world is a global village consisting of communication devices that allow us to talk to each other at an instant, according to Marshall McLuhan, our world seems to be connected by the media. With keeping this notion in mind, within this CBC report, McLuhan tells us that the book is no longer "king". This means that the book is no longer dominant in todays society as information or research can be retreived from other sources such as the internet. Also, within this audio clip based on young people, McLuhan explains to us how the youth aids or furthers the global change from print to electronic media. He explains to us that in the eyes of a teenager, the book is losing it's appeal because the internet is more convinient. easily accessible from anywhere and has the ability to provide a vast amount of information at once.
